Sound Design Experiments

I took part in a sound design lecture that gave an introduction toward sound designers and their practise. I learned that sound designers have a separate duty to others in sound as they have to engineer recorded samples which is an adaptation on simply recording sound. It also gave an insight into some of the devices people would use to create these sounds; disney being a good example.
In this session we had a go at creating our own design machines and to pitch and sell them i.e. to explain exactly what our sound machine was and what it’s duty was in terms of what sound we were trying to create.

This is our ‘Drawbridge’ piece of sound design. The idea is that the handle will rotate the chain causing it to rattle against the saucepan and plate to make the sound of a drawbridge and other devices. For instance with the cardboard flat attached we found that the sound created more base and could be used as a horse and cart, take the card off and your back with a draw bridge.
